Many of us have placed covers over our webcams – often to avoid unintentional video of ourselves and/or because we simply don’t like to see our own video…
However, today we need to humanize the web communication experience – and establish personal relationships with our audiences.
Consider face-to-face meetings: I’ve never seen anyone walk into a meeting room with their hands covering their face…!
So, let’s connect with our customers and audiences. Take your webcam cover off and turn on your webcam – and encourage the same with your customers. Wave or do a virtual “elbow bump” when you do introductions. Smile and gesture, as you would if you were face-to-face. Use props or visual aids, when possible.

Great post Peter. Humanizing the experience if key! If three months ago the standard was to keep camera off, it is the exact opposite today. I'd say especially those in other industries beyond technology.
Totally agree. These special times right now are even a chance for people feeling uncomfortable turning on the camera.
Just always turn on video also for internal meetings with colleagues. Maybe even video-call instead of phoning. Use the practicing occasion now everyone's remote anyway.
