Hello team,
Hope all is well and safe during this corona virus situation!
I would like to share a thought and get feedback about remote working as a presales.
In one of my roles, I used to be stationed in one country and travel around supporting sales managers with their initiatives. I had no official office to go, so I was mainly working from home or fly out whenever needed (most of the time).
Do you feel that this is something that companies do more and more?
I am not talking only working from home but hired from a company in country A and reside to Country B from where you will do your job.
What are your experiences?
Thanks
Dimitris
Well, COVID-19 will probably change the world of remote working so the past won't matter as much :)
While I work from our office in SF and love coming in, the SEs on my team are remote and were remote even before this crisis. I think it will become more and more popular, especially since technology works better than a few years ago (video conferencing is reliable, Slack is a main collaboration tool and works seamlessly etc.)
My belief is that as long as you ensure you have good wifi, are available during the main office's (and your prospects/customers) time zones, and are getting your work done, live on Mars as far as I care ;)
Hi Noam,
Thank you for your response. With the way the technology is expanding, things have to shift.....from "going to work" to "the work has to come to me".
Of course this will never be 100% possible since there are situations that require to be physically in the office.
Generally though, I feel that goign to the office or be close to it, is something that companies still look for, except if the region is indeed very big.
Personally, I am extremely interested to see what"normal" life after this pandemic. will look like.
In short order, our world has flipped upside down. In early March, we were living normal lives and, in only a few weeks, many of us are shelter in place. That is a very quick change to a large group of people; macro change does not typically move at this rate. That said, many jobs/companies that were typically in-office cultures are now seeing that they can operate while their employees are remote (ex. someone in my family is an office manager for an insurance office). I tend to lean that it will be the individuals/people that drive the shift to more remote flexibility than the organizations themselves, especially those jobs that do not typically have remote abilities. Further, and to my first point, we all had to adjust to a "new normal" but will people welcome the move back to in-office culture or will they struggle to make that a routine again? Additionally, will it be in the first week or two we welcome it but change our minds after that?
I do feel that companies will be tighter on travel budgets for the rest of fiscal 2020 and potentially longer so that may play a role too.
Great post @Dimitris Karistinos
Hi All! Hope you all are safely placed during these tough times!
@Dimitris Karistinos - Great question! It got me thinking and from my experience, I have worked with SEs who address various markets from the country - same as the company. I'm just realising that they were remotely working but from a company office.
@Noam Horenczyk - With increasing tools to bridge collaboration, I believe companies not choosing remote work from home as a new norm in the near future might be eaten alive (just a thesis) by companies promoting and hiring remote workers from home. We can definitely plan our station at Mars 💪🚀 @jameskaikis I'm also waiting for the big reveal!
Well we will have to wait and see if the mentality of "being close to the office" will change.
Sometimes, people cannot relocate to a new city or country to provide their services, but its a pitty for cooperation opportunities to be lost for this.
The world will change one step at a time 😀😀
