Director Sales Engineering
Lead a dynamic team of Sales Engineers to deliver innovative automated storage solutions, transforming customer visions into reality through technical expertise and strategic leadership.
The Head of Sales Engineering is a key leader in bringing customer visions of automated storage solutions to life. This role supports the commercial success of the sales organization by overseeing a team of Sales Engineers who develop value-engineered solutions based on customer needs. The Head of Sales Engineering is responsible for ensuring that proposals are technically viable, competitively priced, and aligned with business objectives while fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Sales Enablement:
- Manage and lead the concept and quote generation process to support the Sales organization in developing tailored solutions for customers.
Team Management:
- Prioritize and align the team’s work with commercial leadership to meet customer needs and successfully close sales opportunities.
Ensure Competitiveness:
- Oversee the technical and commercial feasibility of solutions generated by the team, ensuring accurate costing and competitive pricing.
Quotation Assessment and Management:
- Evaluate quotation requests for feasibility and assign them to team members, setting clear expectations on timelines and deliverables.
Hands-on Support:
- Provide direct support to team members as needed, offering technical insights to enhance solution concepts.
Project Responsibility:
- Take overall responsibility for the solutions produced by the team, ensuring compliance with technical requirements and customer expectations.
Budget and Compliance Management:
- Manage project budgets to ensure they meet customer requirements while ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.
Team Culture and Collaboration:
- Foster a team culture of proactive communication, efficiency, and problem-solving, while coordinating with Sales Directors, Head of Sales, Project Execution Engineering, After Sales Manager, and Supply Chain Manager.
Customer Engagement and Stakeholder Management:
- Participate in customer meetings and escalate issues to relevant stakeholders when necessary.
Operational Budgeting and Process Improvement:
- Develop an operational cost budget and work with the Global Sales Engineering Director to improve and refine process standards.
Performance Tracking:
- Track team performance, analyze data, and develop actions to improve the quotation process and project outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of management experience in the material handling industry, with a focus on multi-technology integration.
- Extensive experience in pre-sales engineering within the automated material handling or warehousing industry.
- Proficiency in mechanical and robotic system design.
- Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and project management abilities.
- Availability for a hybrid work schedule, with 2 days of remote work and 3-4 days in the office per week for team engagement and collaboration.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with European colleagues, with preferred working hours starting between 7-8 am CST.
