Job Description

End date: Contract of 6 months with extension.

Function

The resource will be part of the application support team at the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (SANTE). He will be responsible for the support of the TRAde Control and Expert System (TRACES), which is a multilingual online management tool which notifies, certifies, and monitors trade in animals, products of animal origin and feed and food of non-animal origin, as well as of plants, seeds and propagating material. TRACES is an e-government system, following the requirements of the EU Digital Agenda towards dematerialization of health documents.

Description of tasks

  • Mandatory: scientific back
  • Application Support: Provide expert-level support for all business-critical applications, addressing issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for application configurations, issue resolutions, and support procedures to ensure a knowledge base for the team.
  • Monitoring and Performance Optimization: Proactively monitor application performance, identify areas for improvement
  • Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT professionals to implement solutions and enhancements, and participate in the testing of new releases and patches.
  • User Training: Provide training and support to end-users, ensuring they have a clear understanding of application functionalities and troubleshooting steps.
  • Incident Management: Lead the resolution of critical incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Service Acceptance testing: manual tests of new functionalities and corrections (hot fixes) with a focus on user perspective and consistency with documentation.

Knowledge and skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Application Support Specialist.
  • In-depth knowledge of application support processes, ITIL practices, and incident management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with SQL, scripting languages, and familiarity with various operating systems is a plus
  • Any other training or experience in the food safety sector or a scientific background is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • 2 days onsite per week from the office in Brussels
  • 3 days remote from Brussels
  • Citizenship: The candidate has to be an EU Member State equivalent at the date of signature of the specific agreement – work permit only is not sufficient.

  • English (C1) is mandatory – Oral/Written
  • Working languages: English & French
  • Any other European Language: nice to have
