Job Summary

The Sales Director will play a key role in driving sales of the company's suite of products (instruments, consumables, and services) to academic labs, particularly within Academic Medical Centers (AMCs) and major research institutions 🏥. This is a high-performance, individual contributor role that requires significant networking and relationship-building within the academic research community, especially with Principal Investigators (PIs) across various disciplines. The ideal candidate will have a strong existing network within AMCs, a deep understanding of academic research workflows, and the ability to leverage that network to drive revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy 🎯 to target academic labs, PIs, and research departments within AMCs and other research institutions.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships 🤝 with Principal Investigators and key decision-makers in academic medical centers, driving sales of sequencers, consumables, and services.
  • Sales Leadership: Lead end-to-end sales efforts, including prospecting, presenting, negotiating, and closing sales for instruments, consumables, and external services.
  • Product Knowledge & Support: Maintain a deep understanding of the company’s products and services, ensuring that clients receive tailored solutions to meet their specific research needs 🔬.
  • Customer Engagement: Deliver high-level support throughout the sales process, from initial inquiry to post-sale follow-up, ensuring client satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor and assess market trends, competitor activities, and client needs to identify new sales opportunities and growth areas.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (sales support, scientific, and operational teams) to align on product offerings and ensure smooth sales execution.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and academic events, enhancing the brand and expanding your professional network 📣.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of proven sales experience in life sciences, preferably with a focus on instruments, consumables, or research services to academic labs and/or AMCs.
  • Strong existing network of Principal Investigators and decision-makers within academic medical centers, research institutions, or biotech companies.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting and exceeding sales targets ✅ in a competitive environment.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills 🎤, with the ability to engage senior-level stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently manage a sales pipeline, prioritize leads, and close deals in a fast-paced, high-growth environment ⚡.
  • Familiarity with academic research workflows and product requirements, including instrumentation, reagents, and bioinformatics services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience selling into both academic and medical research environments.
  • Experience with sequencers, reagents, or pipetting equipment highly desirable 🧬.
  • Strong familiarity with bioinformatics services and external research services.
  • A technical background or degree in life sciences, bioinformatics, or a related field is a plus 🎓.

Location

Flexible/Remote 🏠 with travel ✈️ to meet with clients, attend industry events, and conferences as needed.
