Why Should I Consider a Career In Presales?

Most of the people we know in presales say it’s one of the best roles in business. A few of the reasons include:

Being part of the Sales effort is exciting, competitive, and provides a lot of variety from day to day. You’re also at the “tip of the spear” of product innovation because you’re closest to the customer in identifying and understanding their needs.

It’s High Reward and Low Risk: because you’re part of the Sales team you get the benefit of high rewards (compensation, bonuses, etc.), but you have less risk because you aren’t held to a strict quota in the same way your Sales Rep / AE is.

No cold calling or negotiating – you get to experience the fun parts of sales without having to deal with the parts that few enjoy.

Impact: You have the opportunity to work on deals and projects that can have a big impact on your customers or your company.

Hands-on Technology: You’re at the forefront of technological innovation and get to be hands-on with the latest technology. And in most cases, presales doesn’t require coding/programming skills.

How is Presales Different from Sales or Sales Development?

It’s worth reiterating that while presales is a sales role/function, you do NOT have to cold call or negotiate. There are other roles in the sales process that focus in on cold calling/outreach and negotiation/closing. Typically a Sales Development Representative (SDR) will handle the front end of the sales process, which includes cold calling. The Sales Reps or Account Executive (AE) will handle client relations and negotiations. You get to experience the fun parts of sales without having to deal with the parts that few enjoy.

What Activities Does a Presales Professional Do Every Day?

Presales Consultants don’t cold call or negotiate deals, and in the majority of roles coding is not required. Typically, Presales Consultants do the following activities on a regular basis:

Technical Discovery/Scoping - understanding customer challenges and requirements

Product Demos - demonstration of the product or solution you are selling

Technical Validation - guide your customer through a pilot or proof-of-concept of your product

Product Feedback - collaborate with internal Product and Engineering teams to influence product innovation

How Often Will I Need to Travel in a Presales Role?

The amount of travel required depends on many factors including the company you work for and the types of customers you are selling to. These days the vast majority of customer interactions happen virtually but as you become more experienced in the presales profession you may travel to visit customers from time to time.

What is the bootcamp duration?

To enroll in a Presales Collective course, simply visit the course page, choose your preferred cohort, and complete the sign-up and checkout process. Our user-friendly interface ensures a seamless enrollment experience, allowing you to start your learning journey with ease. If you'd like to speak to a PSC team member before enrolling, click "Learn More" and you'll be prompted with an opportunity to book time.

Why Should I Consider a Career in Presales?
Most of the people we know in presales say it’s one of the best roles in business. A few of the reasons include:

Being part of the Sales effort is exciting, competitive, and provides a lot of variety from day to day. You’re also at the “tip of the spear” of product innovation because you’re closest to the customer in identifying and understanding their needs.

It’s High Reward and Low Risk: because you’re part of the Sales team you get the benefit of high rewards (compensation, bonuses, etc.), but you have less risk because you aren’t held to a strict quota in the same way your Sales Rep / AE is.

No cold calling or negotiating – you get to experience the fun parts of sales without having to deal with the parts that few enjoy.Impact: You have the opportunity to work on deals and projects that can have a big impact on your customers or your company.

Hands-on Technology: You’re at the forefront of technological innovation and get to be hands-on with the latest technology. And in most cases, presales doesn’t require coding/programming skills.
What is PreSales Academy (PSA)?
PreSales Academy (PSA) is an online training program that provides you with hands-on training to get a job in tech sales– specifically in presales (aka Sales Engineering/Solutions Consulting). PSA students are coached by experienced presales leaders and learn tech sales to a modern, advanced level. All graduates join a community of mentors, peers, and classmates. If you apply and are accepted, you will be required to attend live, online classes, complete various asynchronous assignments, and participate in group activities.
Why Shouldn't I Just Apply to Companies Directly?
You certainly can apply to jobs on your own. Although, PreSales Academy will greatly increase your chances. There are several advantages to letting us help you gain entry into a career in presales:

We guide you to connect directly with decision makers. If you’ve ever applied for a role through a career page on a company website, it can seem like your resume has been sent into an abyss. We will provide you steps on how to get directly in front of hiring managers.

We help you target companies that fit your skills. Companies differ in what skills they look for in presales. We’ve mapped their hiring criteria, and will identify where you’re a good fit.

We can vouch for your skills, beyond your resume. We leverage our brand and our expansive network to endorse you to hiring managers, even if your resume doesn’t contain a great deal of related work experience.

We save you time. Your initial time investment translates into expert skills and experience that would otherwise take years to develop.We support you after you're hired. When you join PreSales Academy, you join a community of mentors and classmates. Never take on a work challenge alone, ever again.
Is Your Program Part-time or Full-time? What is the Commitment?
The program is part-time: 3 Stages over 10 weeks. Stage 1 is 4+ weeks of asynchronous content where you can pace yourself to hit our learning milestones. Stage 2 is 4 weeks long and is composed of 3 live meetings per week occurring between 4:00-5:30pm (Pacific Standard Time). Stage 3 is 1+ weeks of hybrid materials getting you ready for your search. We have final assignments and a live graduation session.

To graduate you must complete all assignments and be available for 11/12 of the live meetings in Stage 2. Attendance is taken, and you will not qualify for job search support if you do not complete the mandatory requirements of the course. This requires attending online lectures, participating in weekly office hours with your team, submitting weekly progress reports, and working with companies on real practice scenarios. We outline these requirements in our Enrollment Agreement provided once you are accepted into PreSales Academy.
What Things Are You Looking For in Applicants?
We work with a diverse group of applicants. We do not emphasize where you went to school – or if you went at all. In fact, where you went to college is usually not a great predictor of how well you do in sales.

We care more about your attitude, determination, compassion, patience, curiosity, honesty, accountability, and positivity. We value doers, owners, hard workers, connectors, and thinkers. Clear, concise communication, and a commitment to helping others will go a long way.
Is Your Program Only for Presales Positions?
No, our program supports all technical go-to-market roles, including but not limited to presales, solutions, implementation, support engineering, customer success and even sales.
I Don't Have Sales or Tech Experience on My Resume. Is PreSales Academy Right for Me?
We are looking for signs of sales talent, not just experience. We've had people from a variety of backgrounds participate in the program and successfully land jobs. The skills required for excelling in presales can be developed at any career stage.
Is Any Information From My Application, Interview, or Training Shared With Companies Without My Knowledge?
No. We will not share any information about you with companies until you’re ready. We will help you put together a resume and graduate profile that we will send to potential employers on your behalf.
Can I Apply More Than Once?
Yes. If you've applied before and were not accepted, we strongly encourage you to apply again for a future cohort. Demonstrating progress since your last application shows determination and growth – and that’s important to us.
Can I Participate in PreSales Academy Remotely?
Yes. Our training program is 100% online. You do need to commit to participating in all live lectures through our virtual classroom, completing your asynchronous work, and you need to be responsive and communicative with the PreSales Academy team during and after the program.
Do I Need a Work Visa?
Currently, our program is only open to those already eligible for full-time work in the U.S. and Canada. You must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident. We will be looking to expand access internationally for future cohorts.
What Happens If I Am Not Accepted Into PreSales Academy? Does it Mean I Can't Apply to Companies on My Own?
No. Our application process is confidential. We will NOT tell any companies that you were not accepted in our program, and it will NOT affect your ability to apply to or get a job at any company. We always encourage you to re-apply.
Am I Free to Join Any Company After Participating in the Training Program? What Are My Obligations?
Yes, absolutely! You may join any company you wish after our training program! We support you in pursuing any company (and role) that you believe is the best fit for you. With our deep industry experience we'll provide advice and guidance to help you identify the best roles/companies for you.

Will I Need to Move to Find a Job?
It's unlikely as the vast majority of presales roles are remote or hybrid. However, there are a few companies that prefer you to be in an office in a specific city, so they may require relocation but many companies will often cover the cost of moving.
Why Can’t I Just Get an Entry-level Position and Have the Company Train Me?
You might be able to. Yet many people fail to get even entry-level tech jobs, including experienced industry veterans. A combination of skills, experience, and connections is the recipe for success in landing a job - and we give you a headstart in those categories.
What is the Success/Placement Rate?
PreSales Academy is not a placement agency. We measure success based on a combination of factors, including participant satisfaction with career outcomes.

We service our students/graduates long past course completion so that we can help them achieve the career outcomes they dream of.

~65% of our graduates from PreSales Academy have found themselves career-changing roles within 180 days of completing the program.
How Much Does PreSales Academy Cost?
Don't worry about upfront costs holding you back. PreSales Academy understands the challenges of starting a new career. That's why we offer flexible payment options.

You can choose to:
1) Pay upfront tuition at a discounted rate.
2) Spread out the cost with our installment plan.

This way, you can focus on your studies and not have to juggle tuition and living expenses.

Tuition Options: You have two tuition options. You may either pay upfront tuition or secure a loan from our partners, Climb Credit.

Upfront tuition option: $4,995 is due either entirely upfront upon enrolling in the program, or in two installments - one before the program begins, and the second before Stage 2 begins. Note, this option is non-refundable after beginning Stage 2 of the program.

Climb Credit Loan option: $5,995 is paid through the student selected loan set by Climb Credit. Each Climb Credit loan terms e.g., interest rate and repayment plan, will be determined by your financial background after a soft credit check (which won't affect your credit score). If you choose to borrow less than the full amount or don't qualify for the full loan, you'll need to pay the remaining balance upfront before enrolling.
