Director of Sales
Job Description
Our client, a leading Sephora makeup brand, is seeking a Head of Sales to join their team in Los Angeles, California on a hybrid schedule (2-3 days a week in-office). Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will be responsible for accelerating profitable growth, strengthening key retail partnerships, and building scalable sales infrastructure to support the company’s next stage of expansion. This is a highly strategic, cross-functional leadership role best suited for a data-driven sales leader with deep experience in prestige beauty retail and demonstrated success growing brands within exclusive retail partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy & Reporting
- Develop and execute the brand’s omnichannel sales strategy to achieve and exceed annual revenue and profitability goals.
- Create both annual and multi-year growth plans centered on sustainable, margin-focused expansion.
- Oversee the full sales budget, including P&L management and retailer-level profitability analysis.
- Deliver comprehensive weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reporting, tracking KPIs and business health indicators.
Strategic Retail Partnership Management
- Act as the primary relationship owner for a major North American prestige retail partner, fostering strong collaboration across merchant, planning, marketing, and operations teams.
- Drive growth within an exclusive retail relationship, including assortment expansion, distribution strategy, promotional programming, and international opportunities where applicable.
- Lead commercial negotiations and long-term partnership planning in close collaboration with executive leadership and finance.
- Partner closely with Operations to align forecasting, inventory planning, replenishment, promotional cadence, product launches, and discontinuations.
- Work closely with Marketing and Merchandising to build comprehensive go-to-market strategies for launches and key initiatives.
- Align on promotional calendars, in-store events, and brand activations to maximize visibility and sell-through.
- Oversee visual merchandising direction to ensure best-in-class retail execution while maintaining budget discipline.
- Guide in-store education and engagement strategies in partnership with internal teams and external retail stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Digital and Marketing teams to define strategy and financial performance for the DTC channel.
- Own the DTC revenue roadmap, ensuring alignment with wholesale strategy and a cohesive consumer journey across touchpoints.
- Balance short-term sales performance with long-term brand equity and channel harmony.
- Partner with Product Development to shape a 12–24 month innovation pipeline aligned with retailer priorities, consumer demand, and brand positioning.
- Contribute to a three-year growth strategy alongside executive leadership, identifying opportunities for category expansion, exclusivity optimization, and scalable growth.
Operational Leadership & Process Optimization
- Manage broker and distributor relationships to ensure strong retail execution and accountability.
- Translate retailer requirements into clear internal action plans, driving cross-functional alignment.
- Oversee vendor onboarding, agreements, systems implementation, and documentation processes.
- Identify and implement operational improvements to support efficiency and scalability.
- Lead with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset that strengthens internal partnerships and team performance.
- Support additional strategic initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of progressive sales leadership experience within prestige beauty or consumer packaged goods.
- Demonstrated success managing major prestige retail accounts in the U.S. and/or Canada.
- Strong understanding of omnichannel business models, including wholesale and DTC integration.
- Proven financial expertise with P&L ownership, forecasting, and budgeting experience.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Experience overseeing brokers, distributors, and external partners.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on, execution-driven approach.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial growth environment.
Salary: $180K – $195K
