Forward Deployed Engineer
Job Description
The background of a forward deployed engineer at Singularity Energy can be wide and varied. We’re looking for somebody who can write full-stack code (across the frontend, backend, data engineering & infrastructure - or ramp up quickly!), manage a large and complex project, coordinate resources internally across multiple departments, and stay on top of customer communications that involve multiple stakeholders and require the utmost clarity.
The primary role of a customer engineer is to be the technical leader on the delivery and deployment of Singularity Energy’s platform for a large (utility or grid operator) customer.
What you will do week-to-week and day-by-day will vary and can include:
- Meeting with customer stakeholders to understand business goals, data, and technical environments
- Working with your internal account manager counterpart to define and agree on a delivery timeline
- Creating a roadmap of features needed to deliver on the customers’ needs and working with product and engineering managers to prioritize, estimate and allocate engineer time for feature development and delivery
- Deeply understanding and empathizing with your customers’ business needs and workflows in order to communicate the importance of various roadmap items
- Clearly and consistently communicating with customer (and internal) stakeholders across a variety of levels - from project managers, to IT administrators, to C-suite executives
- Implementing data pipelines to ingest customer data into the Singularity platform
- Proactively identifying bottlenecks and future challenges that will block or impede delivery and raising that to the correct parties for resolution
- Helping the core engineering team by building features and squashing bugs
- Prototyping new product capabilities and provide structured feedback to the product and engineering teams
- Collaborating in a working session with a product manager and designer to build new user workflows for your customers
- Leading customer training, documentation, and ongoing technical support during early deployment phases
