Location: Hybrid – Based in New York/New Jersey (Regular travel to AWS office in Manhattan) OR Arlington, Washington DC
Salary: $400K OTE (50/50 split) + Benefits (Medical, 401K etc)
Our client is an AWS Premier and Strategic Partner delivering hands-on DevOps, FinOps, and GenAI professional services to high-growth startups. Their mission is to help tech-driven businesses scale smarter, move faster, and extract greater value from the cloud.
With an established presence across EMEA, the business is now expanding into the USA and is hiring its first Sales Director to lead commercial operations on the ground. This is a rare opportunity to join at the foundational stage and shape both the go-to-market strategy and the culture of the US team.
Key Requirements
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on sales leader with a proven track record in cloud professional services, who can operate both as a hunter and a manager, and who understands how to engage startup clients operating within the AWS ecosystem.
Essential skills and experience:
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience leading direct cloud sales and business development initiatives with a consistent record of closing new business and generating revenue
- At least 2+ years’ experience managing and mentoring sales teams
- Experience selling IT professional services (e.g. consulting, managed services, or technical staff augmentation), or SaaS solutions targeted at DevOps/R&D teams
- Deep understanding of B2B sales environments, including sales organisational structures, indirect channels, CRM systems, and go-to-market frameworks
- Demonstrated success in selling AWS-based solutions and a network of contacts within US-based startups
- Strong executive presence with the ability to engage and influence C-level stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
- AWS Cloud certification (preferred)
- Familiarity with Salesforce (preferred)
- Organised, high-energy individual able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment
- Based in the NY/NJ area, with availability to work remotely and attend meetings at the AWS Manhattan office 1–2 times per week
- Willingness to travel throughout the East Coast
Role & Responsibilities
As Sales Director, you will own the US sales function and play a hands-on role in acquiring new customers, managing key relationships, and building a scalable commercial foundation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining and executing the US go-to-market strategy, in collaboration with senior leadership
- Taking full ownership of the sales infrastructure and commercial processes for the US region
- Building and maintaining a strong pipeline of greenfield startup accounts
- Developing strategic partnerships with AWS and other ecosystem partners
- Leading, managing, and mentoring the current Senior Account Executive, with future responsibility to scale the US sales team
- Driving new business acquisition, with a focus on digitally native, startup, and ISV clients
- Representing the company at key industry events, AWS summits, and local startup forums
- Reporting on performance metrics, sales forecasts, and market insights to support leadership decision-making
