In PreSales, learning is critical. Technology is changing all the time, and different customers have unique problems to solve. The more you can expand your knowledge and refine your skills, the more creative you can be in the solutions you develop for your customers.

Mattie Stremic chatted with Adam Lazzara, Vice President of PreSales at Soci, about how to create a culture of guidance — not feedback — and fit learning into each day. He also shares the most important things to learn in PreSales, for both ICs and leaders.

“Guidance is something we all can get behind. If you’re hiring people onto your team, you want people that embrace being coached. We make it comfortable for people to have conversations about ways to be better.”

— Adam Lazzara

Episode Takeaways

  1. Be deliberate in your quest to learn and grow. Set aside time in your day to focus on learning, and develop a system for organizing new information.
  2. Count small wins and make yourself 1% better every day. Over time, that will significantly accumulate knowledge.
  3. Don’t get complacent. You may think you know everything, but everything evolves over time, and staying ahead will make all the difference.

Discussion Questions

  • What are your barriers to everyday learning? Is there a way to remove or overcome them?
  • What is one area you could expand your knowledge to be a better advisor for customers?
  • How are you creating a culture of guidance, rather than feedback, within your team?
  • What is your learning style? Visual, hands-on, or reading?

Coming up next (April 17th): Tune in to part five for best practices in developing your external network.
