Many of us in PreSales didn’t get into this profession without help. Sidney Gomez, Director of Solutions Consulting at 6sense, says it took more than a village — a whole country, she calls it — who mentored and coached her to get to where she is today.

Now, Sidney is leading a team and finding opportunities to mentor others in the PreSales space. In the sixth and final installment of our “Becoming a World-Class SC” podcast series, she talks with Mattie Stremic about how SCs can benefit by investing in others’ success.

“There are so many people who need help right now; you just need to extend the branch. If we can all commit to helping one person a month — think how much better the world will be.”

— Sidney Gomez

Episode Takeaways

  1. Mentorship and coaching fuel growth for both parties. You get to see your own strengths and challenges reflected back into those interactions.
  2. Whether serving as a mentor or coach, it’s critical to maintain a people-first mentality. Get to know the person, what makes them tick, and how they want to receive feedback.
  3. Individual contributors who want to manage and coach need to shift their mindset toward big-picture objectives and what skills are needed to achieve them.

Discussion Questions

  • What strengths can you bring to a mentorship or coaching relationship?
  • How can you learn and grow in your own career from mentoring others?
  • Think about a mentor or coach you’ve had that made a difference for you — how can you pay that forward?
